Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is therapy like?

I believe that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all all, so what may work for you or your child may not be the same as a friend’s therapy sessions. Some people benefit more from talk therapy, while others benefit from psychoeducation and play. Most sessions last 45-50 minutes.

Jamie is a Registered Play Therapist and incorporates a variety of play and creative therapy techniques.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This depends on a lot of different things, including the presenting issue, treatment, and progress. Initially, in order to show progress a child will be seen weekly or bi-weekly, then moved to monthly.

We work together to set goals, monitor progress and determine a best course of action.

  • What are your hours?

I do not have set hours, they are all appointment only. Some before and after school appointments are available but are limited to first-come first-serve. We have an online scheduling platform available above under “Schedule” if you are an established client.

  • Do you take insurance?

I accept United Healthcare, Medicaid, Cigna and Aetna.

    I do not accept BCBS/Anthem.

I am able to provide a superbill for you to submit to your out-of-network provider if necessary.

  • What about cancellations/no-shows?

It is required to give 24 hours notice for cancellations per office policy. If there is less than 24 hours notice or the client is a no-show, there will be a full session fee charge. A no-show fee is applied after 15 minutes into the scheduled session if the client has not arrived.

Please know, I try to be flexible in times of inclement weather, illness, or family emergencies. We also may be able to move sessions to virtual if needed.

  • Do you see adults?

I, personally, feel most equipped to work with children to young adults ranging from ages 5 to 18. I am happy to provide referrals for adult concerns.

  • What is Play Therapy?

“Child play therapy is a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the “language” of the child – play.

Play therapy works best when a safe relationship is created between the therapist and client, one in which the latter may freely and naturally express both what pleases and bothers them.”-

  • Am I expected to participate in therapy as a parent?

I ask that parents are active participants in therapy in whatever fits your child’s needs best. I will collaborate with you to help your child be their best selves at home, school and in the community.

I do feel it is only fair for parents to participate in their own therapies if they are having challenging parenting moments, but that is up to you as the adult. I do ask that we schedule 1:1 check-in’s when needed.
